A Poverty Law Advocate can assist you with legal issues including but not limited to:

  • Income assistance

  • Tenancy issues

  • Persons with Disability (PWD) and CPP Disability (CPP-D) applications and appeals

  • Employment Law; Employment Insurance and Employment Standards

  • Worker’s Rights

  • Old Age Security

  • Debt and Consumer Law

*We do not cover strata, ICBC/motor vehicle, and personal injury matters

How we help

Poverty Law Advocates provide information, advocacy, and referrals. An advocate can help to identify your legal needs and provide information when choosing fair, realistic solutions in your poverty law matter. Advocates may assist you by:

  • Providing information about benefits

  • Reviewing necessary forms and documentation for poverty law matters

  • Advocating with decision-makers on your behalf

  • Preparing questions and summaries of legal needs for duty counsel or a pro-bono lawyer

  • Providing representation at tribunals and other hearings
